Miss Mongolian barbecue? Many years ago, it was the food craze and we would make our way to the popular Mongolian barbecue restaurants in Metro Manila.
But I do miss being able to customize my rice bowl mix with various sauces and toppings! So when I was invited to the launch of Wok2Go’s new branch, I immediately recalled fond memories of my own concoctions.
Wok2Go Double Dragon Plaza Branch
Wok2Go’s newest branch is located at the back of Double Dragon Plaza, right beside the parking entrance. It is a casual restaurant where your food is cooked to order in an open kitchen where you can watch the cooks stir fry your order in a fiery wok.
Wok2Go was established by Kim Garcia and co-founded by Angie Mead King, car enthusiast, TV personality and Victoria Court heiress.
THE FOOD
The dish that you should really go for is the “Make Your Own Wok Mix“!
The price starts at P120 for the small size basic wok mix.
So how do you go about making your own wok mix?
First, choose your sauce. Then pick your base. Then choose your add-ons.
You have 8 sauces to choose from:
- Sinigang
- Binagoongan
- Adobo
- Gochujang
- Soy Honey Garlic
- Teriyaki
- Pepper
- Green Curry
The most popular sauces are the Soy Honey Garlic and the Teriyaki, but I chose to go with Green Curry for something different.
Next, pick your base:
- White Rice
- Red Rice
- Rice Noodles
- Mixed Vegetables
Every base already includes bean sprouts, carrots, onions, cabbage, and snow cabbage, so you’ll also get a portion of your daily vegetables, too!
For my order, I chose white rice because I wanted the sauce to stand out.
Finally, you can choose your meats and other toppings! Here’s the “Make Your Own Wok Mix” menu below:
My first order was just okay, but that’s on me because I had the freedom to choose everything, and also, I felt pressured to order quickly so I didn’t really think about my order that much. But on my second visit, I already had the experience once, so I was able to take time to think about my sauces and toppings and which goes well with what, and my second customized wok mix was so good that it’s going to be my go-to order at Wok2Go from now on!
My first order was a large, but it was too big for me! I thought that I would be able to finish it all, but it’s too much ๐ So for my next order, I went with the small size and it’s just the right size for me, even though I was really hungry ๐
Here’s my customized wok mix:
Soy Honey Garlic Sauce
- Red Rice
- Beef
- Chicken
- Fried Tofu
- Crushed Peanuts
- Fried Garlic
- Egg
- I was ordering customized mixes for the family that I forgot to add Shiitake Mushrooms to this, but I will definitely add some next time ๐
SUMMARY
The “Make Your Own Wok Mix” can be amazingly good if you put some thought into it before ordering. I was able to create a dish that was perfect for me and my taste buds. I really, really love my customized mix! ๐ The beef and pork are cut very thin to make them easy to cook and easy to eat.
My sister also enjoyed her customized sinigang. She was able to choose the vegetables that she likes and not include the vegetables that she doesn’t like. In other restaurants, you’re usually stuck with the classic vegetable combos, but at Wok2Go, she was able to add only those that she actually liked.
Wok2Go also has other side menu items like siomai and Lumpiang Shanghai, but the “Make Your Own Wok Mix” is what I’d recommend ๐
The sizes tend to run big. I can be a big eater so I thought the Large would be good for me, but I realized that the Small wok mix with all my toppings is just the right size for me.
Service is good. Cooking the wok mixes is supposed to take only around 3 minutes per order, but when there’s a long line of orders waiting to be cooked, it can take a little longer to get our food, but I didn’t mind. The staff were happy and proactive and that really helped keep the atmosphere positive.
Make Your Own Wok Mix price starts at P120 for the Small and already includes sauce, base and vegetables. Each additional topping has a corresponding price addition.
I hope Wok2Go opens more branches nearer me soon. Right now, they only have branches in Uptown Mall in BGC and in Double Dragon Plaza near MoA. They deliver via their in-house delivery service (witihin 10 km radius), and they are also available via Grab Food, Foodpanda and Lalamove.
Wok2Go also gives back – they try to be as environmentally friendly as they can by not using plastic bottles, and only using bamboo utensils. Also, for every wok sold, P10 is donated to the Philippine School for the Deaf and the Philippine National School for the Blind. As customers, not only did we enjoy our food, we also felt good supporting the business.
