Last 11.11, I bought some wall stickers from Lazada ๐
These were quite inexpensive at less than P200 per set (P113.00, P125.00 and P161.00)
There are 3 places where I planned to use these stickers:
- in a blank wall near the entry way that I wanted to liven up a little, feng shui-wise
- the blank space above my bed where a painting used to hang
- in the wall behind our coffee station
I think the big, framed painting (Starry Night) I used to have looks a bit too old-fashioned for my minimalist glam, contemporary style. These were paintings we originally got from Greenhills. I don’t know what to do with these old paintings. Any suggestions on how I can repurpose them?
Originally, I was thinking of replacing the “Starry Night” painting with another painting with a green leaf theme. But after spending a lot of time thinking about where I can find a painting like that inexpensively, and even considering designing my own “leaf painting” on my computer, print it on a tarp, and framing it using my old frame… I came to the conclusion that it was too much work. All I really wanted was some green leaves on the wall to add some height and to balance out the rest of the room.
So I seriously considered using stickers instead. I had seen these stickers while browsing Lazada and Shopee, and since 11.11 was coming up, I just waited for sales and free shipping promos ๐
I just browsed, added things to my cart, and on the SALE day, I picked the ones I wanted and bought them ๐
I also googled some feng shui articles to check if having green leaves and birds were okay for the space (yes, it is).
Some of the stickers have different sizes available, so I chose the sizes that would fit my needs.
As much as possible, I tried to order from sellers that are located locally. It’s easier to talk to them should there be any problems, and the orders arrive faster, too.
WALL STICKERS REVIEW
The stickers arrived! They are rolled around a styro core to keep them from getting crumpled.
I was lazy and started applying the stickers to the wall, and it took me several tries to get them to look right and even. I was afraid they were going to lose their tackiness after I applied and re-applied them several times.
The stickers have a transparent back, so they’re not that obvious. They are not that sticky, so it was easy to re-position them. Try to avoid letting the stickers stick to each other because it’s difficult to unstick them from each other and the stickers can get a little deformed from the pulling.
I had a little more difficulty making the leaves look even, so I ended up using a leveler to make pencil lines as a guide.
RESULTS
Here are the stickers that I put up (bedroom and foyer wall).
I haven’t put up the one for the wall behind the coffee station yet. I am not sure about putting up stickers there because it’s near the foyer wall and it might look tacky to have so many wall stickers in the house. I think I might put the stickers inside a blank picture frame I have instead, to fake a green leaves painting, so it’s not so obvious that it’s a sticker ๐
It’s been a few days since I’ve put up the stickers. The plants on the shelf stickers have stayed put, but the green leaves stickers are starting to peel near the edges. Every day, I have to check if the edges have started peeling and I have to press them back to stick again.
I suspect this has to do with the paint I used for my bedroom wall.
For the interior walls, we used regular semi-gloss paint. For my bedroom walls, I used Rain or Shine Fresco in the color Bio White. It is supposed to be anti-bacterial and whatever, the finish is a little different, slightly rougher, so that could be the cause that the stickers are not sticking too well. I hope they eventually get used to it and stay put.
But so far, so good. I only spent less than P500 for these stickers and they have added a little bit more life and color to a plain wall. Not bad.
As of this writing, the sticker glue doesn’t seem to be doing any damage to the walls nor leaving any residue.
Also, if I ever get tired of them or they become “not uso” anymore, I can easily peel them off and replace them with something else.
These are also easier to use compared to having to buy/create and hang up new artwork! No holes need to be drilled into the wall for hooks and stuff. I also find them easier to clean – just swipe a long duster over the wall, that’s it, while the painting tended to accumulate dust, especially at the top of the frame.
