So We Tried the Viral Pistachio Chocolate from Dubai

The filling

It was a family member’s birthday and she wanted to splurge on the viral Dubai chocolate.

The famous chocolate bar with the pistachio knafeh filling has inspired many copycats, but we wanted to try the original one first. The chocolate bar flavor is Can’t Get Knafeh of It.

It is made in Dubai by Fix Dessert Chocolatier (https://www.instagram.com/fixdessertchocolatier), they only sell via Deliveroo. They do not have any authorized resellers. However, many enterprising individuals have turned this into a sideline gig, and that’s how we were able to get our hands on one.

How We Got Our Hands on It

We ordered via Facebook from https://www.facebook.com/OfficialJoKiShop . We just found this seller on FB. Please note that I am not endorsing them since we don’t know them, just sharing our experience with them. Order at your own risk.

The price was Php1,900 for the chocolate + we paid for the Grab delivery fee, pick up location was near Mall of Asia. So total spend was around P2,000.

Fortunately, they still had some available stock available in the Philippines, so we were able to get our orders as soon as we finished discussions and they booked delivery via Grab (COD).

First, downpayment of P900 via GCash to reserve. Then, the next day when they were in Pasay and ready to deliver, they asked us to pay the balance of P1,000.

We were able to keep track of the delivery via the Grab delivery app.

When the chocolate bar arrived, it was only in a small plastic bag that was not even sealed closed. As in. It was not taped nor stapled nor anything. It was not secure at all. If the Grab driver had thought to exchange the expensive chocolate bar with something else or wanted to tamper with it, it would have been so easy. Fortunately, nothing like that happened, but if you are going to order, definitely request for it to be packed securely.

When the chocolate arrived, it was still a little bit cool and not melted.

Of course, we tried it right away!

Can’t Get Knafeh of It Review

IT IS REALLY, REALLY GOOD!

Forget about the price first. Just thinking of it as a chocolate bar, it is now permanently engraved in my brain as an unforgettable chocolate bar, and something I would definitely want to try again, even if at least just once a year!

Upon opening the wrapper, we could already smell the fragrant pistachio and chocolate.

The milk chocolate used for the exterior is very creamy. The chocolate “shell” is thin, so there’s a lot of room for the pistachio knafeh filling!

The filling? I really can’t get enough of it! It is soft and crunchy. Not too sweet. If you remember Nestle Crunch back when it was good, it’s like that but 100x better! It’s a similar chocolate crunchy goodness but finer. Instead of rice crispies, you’re experiencing the crunch from knafeh. To me, it feels like crunchy, very fine glass crystals (not that I’d ever eaten glass crystals, LOL. It’s just what comes to mind). This is the best way I can think of to describe it.

It has to be consumed within 3 days. But we didn’t want to eat it all up in one day! So we refrigerated it.

So, which tastes better? Room temperature vs. cold Can’t Get Knafeh of It?

The pistachio flavor seems stronger when it’s cold. At room temp, the pistachio flavor tasted mild. But I do like the milk chocolate and the crunchy filling better at room temp.

So, as a compromise, I think I prefer eating the chocolate bar refrigerated so I can taste the pistachio more, but then let the sliced chocolate bar pieces warm up in my mouth a little bit before actually eating them.

To me, the sweetness is just right. I didn’t find it too sweet.

Is it Worth P2,000?

It’s that good that I would be willing to pay that if I were going to eat it as a treat, and only like maybe on my birthday or some other once a year thing. Yung pikit mata nalang.

However, the barat in me knows that it is overpriced ๐Ÿ™ The regular price at Deliveroo is about 69 AED, converted to Philippine pesos, that’s around P1,000. And then you pay another P1,000 for the service to bring it here from Dubai.

If you want to try it, GO! – with full knowledge of how much you’re spending for it. Don’t be like those who spent that much to buy it and then end up just bitter and feeling like it’s not worth what they paid.

If you will just feel bad about spending that money on it, don’t buy it. It will never taste worth P2,000 because half of that money goes to the shipping service cost. And then of that P1,000 left, part of it goes to commissions for Deliveroo, as well. Then the chocolate maker has to make money, too. It’s not fair to judge the chocolate if it’s worth the P2,000 price (kasi pati mga patong ng resellers sinama mo sa pag judge). But if you think of it like a P600-800 chocolate bar, then yes, it’s very worth it. The pistachio filling alone costs a lot, and the milk chocolate they use is also very good quality.

If you accept that and just want to try it, go go go! ๐Ÿ™‚

I really, really like this pistachio knafeh chocolate bar. But yeah, P2,000 is a bit steep. I will try some of the local copycats and see if any of them are good or close enough ๐Ÿ™‚ let me know if you want reviews and comparisons!
