I was recently invited to check out The Grid Food Market – the Power Plant Mall’s food hall located at the new wing.

The last time I was at the Power Plant Mall, the new wing was barely open and all the shops were still closed, so seeing what’s available now made me happy to find out that there’s another food hub relatively close to home.

THE GRID FOOD MARKET

The Grid is located at the second floor (R2) of the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell. It’s a premium food court concept from The Tasteless Group.

The food stalls are not named, but identified by number. Each stall has a cuisine theme. At the center is a beverage station where you can get drinks like wine and coffee.

The feel is contemporary industrial – I’m really digging those green retro chairs! The dining area does not feel cramped; the entire area is air-conditioned and well-lit, although with warm light (hence, the more upscale ambience).

We were to try Stalls 05, 06 and 07.

Stall 05 – Korean

Stall 05 offers Korean food. I ordered the Ribeye Bibimbap Set and it was delicious! It was served in a hot stone pot. Bibimbap is a simple dish of rice, sauteed vegetables and meat, but here it’s really good. It’s the seasoned gochujang (red chili sauce) the and the flavored beef that really make this dish sing! Just claim your order when the order buzzer lights up!

Both times, I added the entire serving of the red chili sauce into the rice. Mix this, as well as the raw egg, into the rice / vegetables/ meat. The hot stone pot will cook the raw egg and keep everything else piping hot. For those who like the scorched rice at the bottom, you’ll get some of those, too 🙂

The bibimbap was a wonderful mix of sweet, salty, savory strips of beef, garlic, and heat. Although, it wasn’t as spicy as it looked. I liked it so much I ordered it again when I returned with my family, and everyone agreed that it was really good.

Stall 06 – Burgers

I had the Cheesier Burger – not only was it cheesy, it was beefy, too! The bun was fluffy, and toasting gave it wonderfully, lightly crunchy edges.

Stall 07 – Singaporean / Malaysian / Indonesian

The Classic Laksa here, for me, was worth going back for! The noodles are very slippery; fully cooked but still had wonderful bite.

The soup was very flavorful and balanced – no one spice dominated, but it tasted of galangal, lemongrass and chilis. It wasn’t overly shrimp-y, too. But the thing that ties all the flavors together was the very creamy coconut milk-rich soup!

The Classic Laksa was also generously topped with fried tofu, fish cakes, shrimp, and coriander. The fried tofu remained crispy even after being submerged in the soup. When you bite into it, all the soup it absorbed just explodes into your mouth

The Grid Food Market also provides a water & plate station. I like that we can just get plates on our own. We ordered several dishes and planned to share them so that everyone could try them, so I’m happy that we could just get the plates we needed. More places should start doing this!

The Grid also has outlets built-in for your charging needs! They can be found under some booths / chairs:

SUMMARY

On weekdays, The Grid is where you’ll see mostly executives working in the area have their lunch. On weekends, The Grid hosts mostly residents from the nearby condominiums and other mall patrons for brunch / lunch / snacks / dinner.

If you’re in the Rockwell area and you are looking for a place to eat that has good food AND that can also cater to everybody’s food preferences, check out The Grid Food Market!

The food is a bit on the pricey side for a food court, but the quality is there and taste-wise, the food is good. I liked my Ribeye Bibimbap and Classic Laksa, but the others also told me that the Nasi Lemak was quite good, too! I guess I just have to visit more times to try the other dishes! 🙂
