Yesterday, we found ourselves at the BGC area, so we decided to drop by and check out the S&R The Fort branch, and it turned out to be a very productive grocery run!
If you are a savvy homemaker, you’ll definitely want to stock up on these: S&R Chicken Thighs and S&R 80% Lean Ground Pork, since they are on promo until Monday (Aug. 31) only!
The Chicken Thighs are from Bounty Fresh Chicken, and are only P120.95/kilo. We got a pack but we are planning to go back to get some more once we free up some space in the refrigerator.
I marinated the chicken and put them in a Ziploc bag and in the refrigerator. This way, it will be easy to take out a few pieces of marinated chicken and either steam-fry (pan fry, covered) them or cook them in the Turbo Broiler, whenever we need an easy dinner. After a few days, if there are any uncooked chicken left, I’ll move them to the freezer.
Here are some ideas of what you can do with these S&R Chicken Thighs:
- Lemon Rosemary Chicken
- Chicken Barbecue
- Fried Chicken
- Chicken ala Pobre
If you know your way around the kitchen and are a little more adventurous (and are trying to use up stuff in the refrigerator), some salad dressings make good marinades. As usual, I recommend using a Ziploc bag since it just makes this marinating business easier (less cleanup, too). I’ve used Italian dressings, honey mustard, ranch, etc… just add some salt & pepper to taste. You can bake them, roast them in the turbo broiler, or flour and fry them, and use any remaining (unused) dressing as sauce on the side. You can also try to use up any remaining spice rub mixes in your pantry.
You don’t have to marinate the entire pack of chicken using one marinade. You can marinate them, 3-4 pieces of chicken per marinade, and use several different marinades. This way, you’ll get a variety of chicken meals over the next few days into next week.
The recommended safe marinating time in the refrigerator is a max of 2 days, but use your own judgement. Freeze your marinated chicken if you don’t plan on using them within 2 days.
This S&R 80% Lean Ground Pork is on promo with a FREE HALF KILO for every pack!
We also bought a pack of this and I’m planning to make some longganisa using this Yummy recipe or my favorite Longganisa Kitchenomica recipe, which I can’t find online anymore at the Del Monte site, except at Kusina ni Ina, so thank goodness I have the Kitchenomics cookbook.
I already roll the longganisa into the desired shape before storing them in the freezer in airtight containers, separated by wax paper or cellophane (I had a pastillas phase I have a lot of unused pre-cut polvoron/pastillas wrappers which I re-purposed for this). I also make sure that each freezer container only has enough longganisa for 1 meal (say, 10-12 pcs) – this way, whenever I plan to cook the longganisa, I only thaw out one container of longganisa and the rest stay frozen.
I just find doing this, having pre-marinated chicken or meat ready in the freezer, saves a lot of time and stress! When everyone is too frazzled from everyday life to even have the energy to think of what to cook, having a few back-ups in the refrigerator can sometimes be a lifesaver!
Stay tuned for my next post on my other S&R finds from my recent trip!
