Sibyullee is our new go-to place for unli Korean BBQ π It seems like every time we try a new kbbq restaurant, we’ve found a new fave!
We’ve been to the Sibyullee Greenhills Promenade branch twice, because I can wholeheartedly recommend it to friends and family. The first time was with other bloggers, and the second time was for a get-together with friends. Sibyullee has a good location that is easy to find, it’s safe (inside a mall), air-conditioned, well-lit, and with relatively easier parking than standalone places.
Price per person starts at P499/person on weekdays (lunch), and the price for weekday dinners and weekends is P549/person. Prices are subject to 10% service charge. Hot tea is P50/person.
SIBYULLEE UNLI KOREAN BBQ
Sibyullee is located at the ground floor of the new wing of Greenhills Promenade. It is on the right side after passing by the mall entrance guards.
The interiors are well-lit, and there are no “chimneys” inconveniently blocking everything. They use a smokeless gas grill where the smoke is sucked in by the grill contraption itself (holes on the side).
They change the grill plate when it gets too burnt π If the grill is too hot, feel free to adjust the heat.
Here are the mechanics for their Unli Korean BBQ:
THE FOOD
They have 12 kinds of meat available, plus Beef Bulgogi Gimbap, Haemul Pajeon, and Cheese Dip, as well as soup, rice and steamed egg. They also provide other banchan like kimchi, radish, salads, lettuce, etc… And sauces.
I also appreciate that they provided us with enough cooking tongs and scissors.
I usually go for the beef, and I prefer their marinated beef bulgogi π We all also agreed that we liked the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken – this is already served cooked – the flavor was all in the sweet & spicy sauce but the sauce was delicious. We ordered the marinated beef bulgogi and the spicy fried chicken several times π
The soy garlic samgyupsal was also good.
I also like Sibyullee’s kimchi — I rarely like other kbbq’s kimchi because all the flavor they have is chili, but I like Sibyullee’s. It’s only very mildly hot, but flavorful and slightly sweet. The lettuce was also fresh.
The pajeon was crunchy, which I like π and my friend C really enjoyed the Gimbap that she ordered them several times. Their steamed egg is the best one I’ve tried so far from an unli kbbq place – the egg isn’t steamed to death and it’s actually nice.
We were given a cheese dip – it’s just grated cheese with some milk – and I think it’s something that can be improved. The cheese doesn’t really melt.
When we were done with our barbecue, we were served coffee jelly with ice cream and a choco stick for dessert π
And then as we were about to leave, they handed us this freshener to spray on ourselves if we wanted to. I’m actually not really sure if this is for spraying on ourselves because it looks like a table cleaning spray, but the waitress said something like “kung gusto niyo ho mag spray para hindi po amoy barbecue“.
We didn’t feel like we needed to since we didn’t smell too smoky, anyway. So, yeah, the “smokeless grill” claim does have some merit π
SUMMARY
There are unli-bbq places whose marinades/sauces taste better. However, the cleanliness, convenience, better ambience and better quality of food offered by Sibyullee always wins out for me lately. The seats are better, we feel more relaxed and secure, and sometimes I just hate those inconvenient chimneys that the staff at other unli kbbq places keep pushing down towards the grill! Hello, I can’t even see the food I’m grilling anymore because the chimney’s in the way!
Try to go during off-peak hours, because there can be a long waiting list during peak hours! π Also, request for a table on the ground floor.
On our second visit, we put ourselves on the wait list very early but were given a table on the second floor, which we declined because when we were about to be seated, we noticed that the area was unbearably hot! Either the aircon vent placement is wrong, or the second floor aircon is not strong enough for the heat.
We requested for a table on the ground floor and had to wait for about an hour before one became available. It’s understandable and we just used the time to catch up on kwento, but just keep that in mind for next time.
The Sibyullee staff explained that they were already bringing up the aircon issue with the mall, since the aircon service is a mall thing and not managed by the restaurant itself. Hopefully this gets fixed soon π
The unli-Korean BBQ itself is quite a good deal considering the upgraded ambience. You get 12 kinds of meat, a few banchan, and dessert. Hot tea is not included in the unli, but is P50/person. The meats used are generally better quality than other unli kbbq chains. The banchans are also better quality, too. Service was good – we knew who our waiter was and he was stationed in our area so he always saw when we needed something.
Overall, it’s the convenience and ambience that make me choose Sibyullee vs. the others, and the food is above average, too. Sibyullee is easy for us to get to, and, I think my parents, aunts and uncles will be comfortable there should we ever go (just make sure to request for the nicer tables in front). Other kbbq chains are dark and not that clean, the service is poor, and I really don’t think it’s their (aunts’, parents’, etc…) scene. Sibyullee just seems more family-friendly and the price is in the same range!
With all that said, Sibyullee is currently my go-to unli Korean barbecue place π
