Last week, I was invited to Seaking’s 20th anniversary party at Shangri-La Makati.
It was an event to thank everyone who supported them through the years. The company behind Seaking is called Superb Catch, Inc., and was started by the Uy siblings – Jennifer, Jeffrey, Nancy and Shirley.
We learned about the Seaking story, and it was an emotional retelling from Superb Catch President Jennifer Uy Ampon. She talked about the sacrifices they made, and how they were so thankful for their mother, who was always there to help take care of their kids whenever they were too busy with the business.
The Seaking Story – 20th Anniversary
It all started 20 years ago when the siblings started selling bangus from their father’s fish pond. They were literally deboning the fish at home with only a few staff, and the siblings would deliver the bangus to the supermarkets themselves.
With a lot of hard work and resilience, the business grew. They started out with frozen bangus, and added more variants. Now, they have smoked bangus and marinated bangus, as well as cream dory and squid. They also have bottled bangus in different flavors, too!
We were shown videos of their clean and hygienic production facilities, showing how Seaking adheres to strict quality standards.
Seaking Wild Alaskan Salmon
They took this celebration to introduce their newest line – Wild Alaskan Keta Salmon. There are several species of salmon, one of which is the keta salmon.
Seaking’s Wild Alaskan Keta Salmon are not farmed (obviously, from the name). They are sustainably caught in Alaska, where there are healthy stocks of wild Pacific salmon. Unlike farmed salmon who eat fish pellets for food, wild salmon eat their natural food like fresh shrimp, crab, krill, plankton, etc… this provides better flavor, as well as more Omega 3s.
Wild Alaskan Keta Salmon is one of the best sources of seafood protein and naturally occurring Omega 3. Omega 3 can help improve heart health, enhance the immune system, and even reduce the risk of diabetes.
Seaking offers four (4) cuts of Wild Alaskan Keta Salmon:
- Salmon Chunks
- Salmon Belly
- Salmon Steak
- Salmon Slab
Seaking is the first wild salmon retailer in the Philippines.
We were able to sample Seaking’s Wild Alaskan Salmon, prepared by the chefs of Shangri-La Makati:
The cut I recommend is the Salmon Slab. It is the easiest cut to cook with, and the easiest to eat 🙂 If you’re interested, I also have a recipe here.
We were also serenaded by the soothing voice of Sitti while we were having our sumptuous buffet lunch:
Seaking products are now available in more than 1,500 supermarkets, restaurants, and hotel chains in the Philippines. Their products are also exported to countries like Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and USA among others.
What started out as a humble, home-based operation in 1999 is now about to open a 20,000 sqm processing plant (which will be fully operational in January 2020)!
Congratulations on your 20th Anniversary, Seaking! Wishing you continued success!
