The House of Wagyu has an ongoing promo where you get 40% OFF on all STEAK orders! Of course, we took this opportunity to go back to House of Wagyu again. The promo is until Sept. 10, 2017.
HOUSE OF WAGYU STONE GRILL
Our first experience at House of Wagyu was from a CashCashPinoy deal several years ago. We’ve been back to House of Wagyu Stone Grill in Greenhills several times since then, always during promos, of course. 😀 They sometimes have 50% OFF promos in conjunction with credit cards like Metrobank Platinum, etc…
This time, we ordered a 500g Top Sirloin Grade 10 that is supposed to be good for 3 people. Hahaha. We thought Grade 10 meant better marbling, that’s why we chose it. The lower price helped, too. However, we were a bit disappointed because it’s not as marbled as we were used to.
The Top Sirloin Grade 9 we had before was fattier. We should have ordered the NY or the Ribeye instead, those are usually better marbled and smell like butter. The Top Sirloin Grade 10 steak that we got was actually very lean. Still tender, yes, but it didn’t have that buttery taste and smell that we love when eating Wagyu. It actually tasted kind of bloody.
Maybe the steak was too big? This was the first time we ordered steak to share at House of Wagyu. We usually ordered one steak each. This time, it felt like the steak was easily overcooked or something. Maybe the process of sharing was taking too much time and causing the steak to get overcooked. But it still doesn’t explain the lack of buttery, fatty, beefy goodness.
Aside from the steak, we also ordered the Foie Gras Salad (P795). The foie gras was perfectly seared – crispy crust, soft inside. It’s so, so creamy delicious and pairs very well with the sweet balsamic reduction and caramelized apple slices.
Sadly, the salad only had one slice of foie. J loves foie so much we’re thinking of buying a whole foie gras at Santi’s and having a foie gras night next month 😀
House of Wagyu served some toasted bread and butter for appetizers. They also served one round of potato soup, and one round of sides (just some mashed potatoes and buttered vegetables). On previous visits, we were usually asked if we wanted another round, but this time, no one asked. So we didn’t know if we were allowed to ask for another round. I asked our waiter if the meal only included one round of the soup and he said yes.
We ate half a kilo of beef between the two of us. Normally, you’d think that would be a lot, but it’s not. J was really not satisfied with the steak that we had and to be honest, I wasn’t, either. He was seriously considering ordering another steak, a Ribeye or New York Strip this time. But we didn’t know if they would give us another round of soup and sides. If they won’t, parang lugi naman.
So we decided to get our bill and just move to another restaurant. As for our bill, House of Wagyu applied the 40% discount to our steak.
Of the 5 times we’ve been to House of Wagyu Stone Grill, this is the first time that we left disappointed with the steak.
WILDFLOUR CAFE + BAKERY
Thank goodness there’s a Wildflour at the newly opened O Square. O Square is a building that is just beside House of Wagyu Stone Grill in Greenhills. Some of the restaurants there are Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, Mom & Tina’s, Blue Posts Boiling Crabs, and a Starbucks.
It was raining really hard last night and while we had an umbrella, J still got soaked because he was shielding me from the rain.
We ordered our usual, the Roasted Bone Marrow (P520). I know I ordered something else once, but I honestly can’t remember what it was. J always orders the Roasted Bone Marrow. I really should try to order something else next time so I can try the other food at Wildflour. The several times we went to Wildflour BGC, it’s always been a nightcap situation and not an occasion for a real meal. And it’s the same thing again this time. Hahaha.
The Roasted Bone Marrow satisfied J’s beef fat cravings. The beef marrow was roasted and fragrant and beefy. J ate the whole order of bone marrow. I just had a few nibbles because I’m one of those people who can’t eat too much of marrow or foie. J can eat a lot of it without umay. An order of Roasted Bone Marrow is served with some bread and a tomato, red onion, cucumber and mango salsa.
Service was good at Wildflour. Our server gave us bread (baguette type) and butter while we waited for the Roasted Bone Marrow. The bread at Wildflour is really something else. The crust is thin and crackling, the bread is chewy but not dense. it reminds me a little bit like crispy, thin lechon skin. 🙂
I just ordered a Vietnamese Latte (P150). There’s no need to add sugar, because it’s already sweet from the condensed milk 🙂
Wildflour was actually having a 50% OFF promo last night on breads & pastries (take-out only)! I’m not sure, I assume they do this every night after 7 pm? I wanted to buy some but we still had a lot of bread at home. You bet I’m coming back for the 50% OFF promo once we’ve finished all the bread we still have 🙂
STARBUCKS
It was still raining very hard. We were done eating at Wildflour. So we moved to Starbucks nalang. The Starbucks is just beside Wildflour.
J ordered the Youthberry tea, and I tried the Granola Dark Mocha Frappuccino that everyone has been raving about on social media.
J said the Youthberry tea was delicious. I thought the Granola Dark Mocha Frap was okay. It tasted nutty, and had some dried fruit and granola. It was difficult to eat because I had to manually scoop out the granola that was left at the bottom of the cup, and the granola pieces kept interfering while I was sucking the drink with the straw. At least I tried it, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering it again.
It was easy to get a table at this Starbucks! There were customers, but they don’t have that crowd that studies/works at Starbucks and hogs a table for the whole day.
We stayed at Starbucks waiting for the rain to let up, but by 12 midnight, it was still raining, and Starbucks was closing! Closing at 12 midnight on a Saturday night! I’m just used to Starbucks that are open later. I had assumed it was a 24-hour Starbucks.
With nowhere else to go, we just walked in the rain to the parking area, sharing an umbrella, and went home.
O SQUARE GREENHILLS
When we went out for dinner last night, we didn’t expect to end up going restaurant hopping in O Square in Greenhills. But just the same, I’m glad O Square exists now. It feels like a more laid-back place to hang out in compared to Promenade.
I like it. It’s not too noisy and it’s not crowded with people. I just wished their Starbucks didn’t close so early. 🙂
