More and more people are having heart problems, and I don’t mean the love kind!
In a recent survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, they found that one out of two adult Filipinos has borderline to high cholesterol. That’s half of the adult population!
To help reverse this trend, Quaker launched the Quaker Smart Heart Challenge.
Celebrities like Neri Miranda, Nadia Montenegro and health coach Nadine Tengco talked about how our typical modern lifestyle and love of unhealthy food are impacting our cholesterol, and how they are trying to reverse high cholesterol for themselves and their loved ones by incorporating more oats into their diet.
What is the Quaker Smart Heart Challenge?
The challenge was introduced in 2004 to demonstrate how adding oatmeal to your daily diet helps reduce cholesterol.
Oats are high in beta-glucans, which offer a number of health benefits, including lowering cholesterol, improving blood sugar management, and boosting the immune system.
The Quaker Smart Heart Challenge aims to help individuals lower their high cholesterol in just 30 days by making one simple change: incorporating 2 scoops or eight tablespoons of Quaker oatmeal daily, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
This promo runs from January 6, 2020 to April 30, 2020.

To apply, you just need to chat with the Quaker Oats Philippines chat bot on FB Messenger and answer the questions.
After that, I got my blood drawn. It takes a week or so to process, and they will just notify me if I qualify.
I have mixed emotions about qualifying because if I don’t qualify, it means that my current cholesterol is not high enough (that’s going to be a relief!) ๐ Who wants to have high cholesterol? ๐
However, those who qualify will be provided with support and will be monitored for the 30-day challenge ๐
Miss Nadia Montenegro also joined the 30-day Quaker Smart Heart Challenge – see the evidence on her arm:
So, how do we add more oats into our diet?
We all know the benefits of eating more oats. But how do we do it? Many of us find plain old oatmeal so boring to eat every day!
Health coach Nadine Tengco created some convenient and tasty oats-filled recipes for us to try:
- Creamy Caramel Oats
- Coco Choco Oat Jar
- Smoked Fish N’ Oats Bowl
- Oat Mochachino
- Oats N’ Raisins Banana Mug Cake
Here she is demonstrating how to make Oats N’ Raisins Banana Mug Cake with Ms. Nadia Montenegro:

If you’re not a fan of microwaving, you can cook your oatmeal the way you like, for example, by using the stove.
I also use oatmeal as a thickener instead of flour or cornstarch when cooking – I add oatmeal to meatballs, soups, etc… it’s another way to sneak in some oats!
Or you can make an oatmeal bar like this. It’s an idea I’m totally going to steal for my next party at home!
Make the smart move to take care of yourself and your loved ones by incorporating more oats into your meals ๐
