Most of us have been staying at home, and, with more time on our hands, many of us have tried our hand at baking!
While I do bake, it has been a while since I baked any cookies. Oatmeal cookies, especially dark, chewy and spicy ones, are my favorite cookies!
So when I was sent this Quaker Oats Cream Pie Kit, I was sooooo excited to bake again ❤
What’s Inside the Quaker Oats Cream Pie Kit?
The Quaker Oats Cream Pie Kit was developed by Chef Miko Aspiras and includes almost everything you need to make your cookies, already measured out in the correct quantities! The only other things you will need are 2 bars of butter and an egg.
Here is the recipe:
Why Oats?
Known as a supergrain, oats are a natural source of iron, which is essential for building immunity against diseases. To help you meet or fulfill the daily recommended intake of iron in your body, oats can easily be integrated into your meals. Apart from breakfast, oats can be taken as a complement to savory meals, and of course, can make your desserts a little less sinful, proving its versatility.
Baking the Quaker Oats Cream Pie Cookies
Pre-heat the oven to 190 C (375 F).
First, I weighed my butter (290g). I am now a convert to using a digital kitchen scale! I bought my scale online for less than P200. No more messy and spilled flours and sugars! All I need to do is to “tare” the scale back to zero each time I want to add an ingredient.
I beat the butter so it would be light & fluffy.
Next, I added the top part of the jar contents, which was a mix of brown sugar, sugar and spices. The nice thing about baking this kind of cookie is that you don’t have to be OC about it. Some of the flour got included when I was pouring out the brown sugar mixture and that’s fine. The reason we are adding the brown sugar now is so the sugar can “punch” a hole through the butter during beating and make the butter lighter & fluffier. A few extra spoons of flour and spices is not going to ruin your cookie.
When the sugars were mixed in with the butter, I added the molasses, vanilla and an egg, blended a bit, then I added the rest of the ingredients in the jar.
I weighed out 240g of oats in the now empty jar and added it to the cookie batter.
And you know what? I wasn’t even paying attention while doing this! My sister and I were discussing the latest K-drama we were watching, and it was nice that I could concentrate on the conversation, the plot speculations, etc… WHILE MAKING THE COOKIES!
This is actually what I love about this kit (aside from the cookies being very flavorful). Using this kit, I didn’t have to concentrate on the baking! Since everything was already measured out, I didn’t have to do any math (fractions!) and I didn’t have to fiddle with measuring spoons and spilling vanilla and molasses. Everything was just open and pour – mindless, actually. My mind was free to do other things like talk and make chismis, hahaha. If I did that while measuring out ingredients, I always lose count and have to try to remember how much of the ingredient I already put in! ?
After mixing the batter, I scooped them onto my cookie tray that I lined with baking paper.
Then I baked them in the oven for the specified 10 minutes. I think my oven was too hot! The first batch was slightly burnt at 10 minutes, so for the next batches, I only baked them for 9 minutes.
My cookies were also thinner than the product photo’s! But when they cooled, they tasted perfect! Chewy, just the way I like them! I wouldn’t change the recipe. I talked to other blogger bakers, and they adjusted theirs by adding more oats so that the cookies would turn out chunkier like the product photo. But I already love how my cookies turned out, taste and texture-wise. In fact, I have already decided to make these cookies again soon! They’re that good!
The oatmeal cookies were full of flavor and spice – sweet, chewy, with a slightly bitter foil from the molasses and the “burnt” sugar — in other words, perfect!
When I say “burnt” sugar, I don’t mean that it is burned. You know how when you make caramel for leche flan, the best caramel is the one that is on the edge of burning but is not burned? It’s because the slight bitterness offsets the cloying sweetness of the sugar.
Making the Cream Filling
I followed the directions to make the cream filling, but I was worried about putting in 3 cups of powdered sugar! So I only put in half of the powdered sugar to see if it was sweet enough, and it was still too sweet for me. Feel free to adjust the sugar level to your preference.

Here is the assembled Quaker Oats Cream Pie!
Quaker Oats Cream Pie Kit Review
I ? loooooooove ? the cookies! I did not assemble all the cookies into cream pies, but just let people assemble their own so they can put as much (or as little) cream filling as they wanted.
The cookies were gone in less than a day! I made around 30 cookies, and it was like people just inhaled them ? I put the cookies in an airtight container on the kitchen counter, and every time people passed by they would get a cookie! It’s so addictive!
I personally love the cookies as is, without the filling — they are so good that I am literally planning to bake them again ASAP! The family has been requesting the cookies, too.
The cookies are sweet, but also healthy because of the rolled oats. Oats are a natural source of iron – something we all need for a healthy immune system! Rolled oats are also full of fiber! Getting the family to eat more oats is not a problem with these cookies 🙂
Why Get the Quaker Oats Cream Pie Kit?
- Easy baking — no need to do any measuring!!! Raise your hand if you hate measuring, too! 😀 Produce delicious cookies with less effort, less spills and less cleanup! No need to concentrate on baking 😀
- The spices are fresh and strong – I must admit that many of my spices have been in my spice drawer for longer than they should be, and, as a consequence, are not as vibrant-tasting as they should be. But that problem is solved with this kit! The wonderful smell of spices was the first thing I noticed when I opened the jar!
- No need to buy ingredients you seldom use – how many times a year do you really use molasses?
