The other day, a friend of mine invited me to Wander Space in Maginhawa to try some ensaymadas from Pastry Armoire.
Pastry Armoire
Pastry Armoire is a sister brand of Pink Wasabi, yup, that cake shop that made cakes that looked like sushi, it was all over the food feeds some years ago. Pastry Armoire does personalized cakes, sticky buns, baked premium empanadas, and now, they are introducing premium ensaymadas.
The ensaymadas come in 6 flavors:
- Aged Parmesan
- Queso de Bola
- Salted Egg Dulce de Leche
- Ube Queso
- Smoked Bacon
- Chinese Ham
Price per piece ranges from P85 to P105.
For a box of 3, price ranges from P250 – P310.
For a box of 6, price ranges from P495-P615.
So, what’s different about these ensaymadas? They are light and fluffy, but packed. It’s not like other ensaymadas that have big holes inside and are full of air. But it’s not dense, either. The “fluffiness” factor actually reminded me of a marshmallow.
The flavors they offer are also different from the usual ones we see, and the flavors are not only provided as topping, but some bits, like the Smoked Bacon or the Chinese Ham, are also incorporated into the ensaymada.
Shelf life: 5 days in the chiller, 1 month when frozen. These are best heated in the oven toaster before eating.
Pastry Armoire currently supplies cakes to various coffee shops and restaurants, and they are aiming to offer their premium cakes and pastries to groceries and supermarkets in the future. They also deliver via Grab or Lalamove.

WANDER SPACE
Wander Space is a bit hard to find. It’s one of those shops that sells quirky, mostly non-commercial or artisanal items.
It is located at the third floor of the #80 Maginhawa Building (same building as The Lost Bread).
They also have a laid-back (literally) cafe at the back:
I had the Iced Dark Chocolate (P155):
The Iced Dark Chocolate was good, but nothing particularly memorable. The Mini Matcha Blondie (P40) is a hit with matcha lovers in the group. It’s actually not a brownie. It’s more like matcha pudding with some white chocolate and pistachios on top. Size is around 1.5 – 2 inches round. At P40 per piece, considering the strong matcha flavor, the price is more than reasonable.
What you should check out Wander Space for are the items that they sell. These are not the usual things that you will find in a department store. One friend couldn’t resist buying cute stickers, and another found the bikinis to be really inexpensive at around P400 (she says they sell for at least P1,000+ in other shops).
So, if you’re on the lookout for items that are not mainstream, maybe give Wander Space a visit.
