San Miguel Foods – not just beer and hotdogs! They have now entered the canned tuna market with San Miguel Del Mar Tuna.
San Miguel Del Mar Tuna
I was sent these to try. The tuna comes in 2 variants:
- Chunks in Vegetable Oil
- Chunks in Water
it is made from 100% pure tuna chunks, with no extenders and no preservatives. It is also rich in Omega 3, which helps prevent and manage heart disease, and protein, which is crucial for our bodies to grow, repair tissue, create essential hormones and enzymes, and support our immune systems.
If you follow the news, San Miguel has been very supportive of frontliners during our ongoing quarantine, so I am very happy to support them in their new venture.
I used the tuna to make Pasta a la Carlo, which is still my favorite pasta dish. I just love the combination of tomatoes and pesto! Fortunately, Figaro shared their recipe here. For extra oomph, substitute sun-dried tomatoes for the stewed tomatoes 🙂
I also used San Miguel del Mar Tuna to make Tuna Macaroni Egg Salad:
I used Maille Fine Mayonnaise (it’s a Dijon mayo), red onions, lots of celery, pickle relish, hard-boiled eggs, sugar, fresh lemon juice, pink Himalayan salt, freshly ground Tellicherry Black Pepper.
Since I didn’t want to manually chop everything, I just put the vegetables and hard-boiled eggs in the food processor and pulsed until they were evenly chopped. Then I put everything in a bowl, mixed and seasoned to taste.
2-in-1 si Celery! I used both the stalks and the leaves ❤
It’s also great as a protein addition to instant ramen! I actually saw this done in the K-drama Live Up to Your Name. Basically, if you want to level up your instant ramen quickly & easily, in my case, for midnight snack, adding canned tuna and an egg is super easy (barely an inconvenience)! 😀
Since I was boiling ramen, anyway, what additional effort is it really to crack an egg and open a can of tuna? San Miguel Del Mar Tuna has an easy-open lid so that makes it very, very convenient! Top with some green onions, and done!
After using San Miguel Del Mar Tuna several times, I noticed that it is not very fishy compared to other tuna brands. Hindi siya malansa. It doesn’t have a strong fishy odor. You get meaty tuna chunks and hardly any fishy aftertaste!
In case you’re curious: I liked Live Up to Your Name 🙂 It’s about a Joseon-era traditional medicine doctor from 300 years ago who gets magically transported to modern-day Seoul. He meets a modern-day doctor. They learn medical techniques from each other and they teach each other how to adapt to their time periods. There are some fish-out-of-water comedy as well. Overall, I enjoyed watching it.
