A few weeks ago, Watsons launched the Naturals by Watsons line which only uses natural ingredients. They are specially formulated with Certified Oganic ingredients that are good for us.
I was invited to the launch and was able to try some of the Naturals by Watsons products, as well as learn all about how some ingredients used in most commercial beauty products can actually be harmful.
Most of the commercial products that we often use include synthetic ingredients that are not good for our hair or our skin. Harmful ingredients include sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), mineral oil, silicone (usually dimethicone), parabens, isothiazolinone, etc… These ingredients can cause skin irritations, itchiness, clogged pores, and dry skin, to something more dangerous like cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, and endocrine disruption.
The new Naturals by Watsons line doesn’t include any of those harmful, synthetic ingredients.
NATURALS BY WATSONS
Naturals by Watsons introduced 7 ranges made with Certified Organic ingredients:
- Olive – sourced from Italy, provides deep moisturizing for hair and skin
- Argan – sourced from Morocco, works best for extremely dry and damaged hair and skin
- Marula – from Africa, restores hair moisture and tames frizz
- Aloe Vera – sourced from the US & UK, soothes dry & irritated skin and strengthens hair; good for dandruff-prone, oily scalp
- Paw Paw – this fruit is very similar to papaya, but I was told that they are slightly different. Anyway, paw paw is also good for repairing skin for healthier, smoother skin. Paw paw is sourced from Australia
- Rice Bran – from Japan, whitens without drying out the skin, for luminous-looking skin
- Macadamia – also from Australia, rebalances hair moisture for revitalized hair and scalp

NATURALS BY WATSONS QUICK REVIEW
I was given a few of the products to try, and here’s my quick review. I wasn’t able to use up all of them, because that’s a lot to use up in a few short weeks! I am also actively trying to keep my opened items minimal – that means I try to use up an opened product before I open another one. I am just trying to prevent my whole bathroom and bedroom being filled with a lot of opened and barely used products.
But anyway, I have been using the Olive Shampoo and Conditioner for the last few weeks and I actually like it. I love the smell. It lathers up (bumubula) quite close to a regular, commercial shampoo. I mention this because most “natural” shampoos that I have used before do not lather very well because they don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate, the cheapest and most common lathering ingredient in commercial shampoos. The Naturals by Watsons shampoo doesn’t have this problem even though it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate.
As for the conditioner, I feel like it is quickly absorbed by my hair, and when I rinse off the conditioner, it doesn’t leave a slimy residue on my back. With most commercial conditioners that contain some sort of silicone to make the hair smooth, I always get a slimy coating on my back whenever I rinse off the conditioner, and it takes a long time for me to remove the conditioner residue and sometimes, I even have to soap it off. If you don’t remove this “residue”, it could cause backne! It clogs pores and could lead to pimples on your back.
The first few days I used the Naturals by Watsons shampoo, I immediately noticed that my hair color looked better. I color my hair at home, and my previous shampoo was making my hair look brassy. I did read somewhere that SLS was bad for color-treated hair, and I could see the difference. My colored hair looked shinier and the color a little more vibrant.
My hair does feel soft and moisturized. The softness it gives won’t wow anybody with dry hair, but it’s still soft and smooth and has better results for me than most mass-market shampoos available in the supermarket. I might have to try the Argan Shampoo & Conditioner next time. However, the conditioning my hair gets feels very natural – by this, I mean I feel like I massaged a very small amount of olive oil in my hair and it was absorbed into my hair, but it doesn’t feel oily. It is a different feeling from the “conditioning” from commercial conditioners where my hair feels smooth but looks dry.
I also used the lotions in this line, and so far, I find them non-greasy and easily absorbed by the skin in a few minutes. I like that they make my skin feel moisturized, and not just sit on top of my skin and slide off. They also don’t give me a slimy feeling when I sweat, like some other lotions do. They also smell nice. They are all definitely scented, but I don’t mind it because I like scents.
I also like the packaging – most of the Naturals by Watsons products come in this brown pump bottle with a wood design accent. They would look right at home in a spa-inspired bathroom setting.
If you are trying to create a mini home-spa bathroom or bedroom, but want to stay within budget, check out Naturals by Watsons. 🙂 For a spa-inspired bathroom space, all you need to do is to go for a monochromatic look, usually white. Change the “colorful” items to the color of your choice. For example, use all white towels, use a white shower curtain, white bath mat, use white containers, you get the idea. The brown from the Naturals by Watsons can be your accent color. Declutter – remove all unnecessary items from this space. Light candles or put scents of your choice.
I have done this partially – I still have some clutter I need to get rid of, but the Naturals by Watsons bottles look right at home in my spa-inspired bathroom.
