So I am a bit late to the game, but it’s the first time I tried Kyochon’s new Rice Series Chicken π
The Rice Series Chicken has been out for a few months already. I was at Kyochon SM Megamall the other day and X convinced me to try their new chicken.
Kyochon is a South Korean fried chicken chain founded in 1991 and is one of the largest fried chicken restaurants in South Korea. They currently have 2 branches in the Philippines – one in SM Megamall (Ground Floor, Mega B) and another one in Robinsons Place Manila.
Kyochon sells mostly Korean-style fried chicken and a few rice meals and salads. Here’s their menu:
What is the Rice Series Chicken?
It’s crispy fried chicken that is coated with a rice flour batter. I was told that the secret to crispy fried chicken was the double-frying – they cannot skip this step! The double-frying is what makes this authentic Korean-style, crispy fried chicken, but it can also take some time to finish, so you’ll have to be a little patient while waiting for your order.
I ordered the 10-pc Rice Series Wings (P399):
The order lets you choose 2 out of 3 dips. The choices are:
- Honey Garlic
- Cream Cheese
- Green Salt
I chose Cream Cheese and Green Salt.
Kyochon Rice Series Chicken Review
I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did! π
First of all, the chicken batter was really crispy, and sometimes, it’s almost the same texture as crunchy lechon kawali / chicharon skin! The selling point here is really the crispiness of the chicken skin.
As expected from chicken wings, the meat was tender and juicy. To add some saltiness, sprinkle some of the Green Salt on your chicken wings, as much as you like. The Green Salt is imported from Korea. The Cream Cheese dip was also delectable – it wasn’t too tangy, it was a bit garlicky, and it was a little sweet. I just had to ask for extra Cream Cheese dip because I used it all up halfway through my 10 pcs of chicken wings π
I did not expect that I would finish eating 10 pieces of chicken wings! I did π Having tried other fried chicken wings that were too oily, I came to Kyochon with not very high expectations. But this fried chicken from Kyochon was not greasy at all. Hindi nakakaumay! That’s how I was able to finish 10 pcs with no effort at all – I mean, I just made papak and then before I knew it, I had finished the entire thing π
If you are looking for crispy but not greasy / oily fried chicken wings, try Kyochon’s Rice Series π They deliver via Grab and Foodpanda, but for the best crispiness, it’s of course better to dine in!
But wait, there’s more! Kyochon Megamall also has a sink for customers to use, so you can feel free to eat the chicken with your hands π
I really feel like Kyochon is a bit under-rated, at least for this Rice Series Chicken that I tried. I think it’s one of the better Korean Fried Chicken places in Manila π
