We were invited to a sneak peek of King Chef’s Mother’s Day set menus the other day. The sets are priced at only P3,888 (good for 6 people) and include a FREE 500g Steamed Pompano in Chili Taosi Sauce.
Almost everyone at our table who was familiar with Chinese lauriat set prices had the same reaction: “P3,888 lang?” 😀 Yes, it’s only P3,888 for the entire set — that’s a good price knowing how expensive Chinese lauriat sets usually are.
KING CHEF MOTHER’S DAY SET MENU OFFERINGS
There are two set menus to choose from: Awesome Mom’s Choice and Amazing Mom’s Choice. The sets include a total of 8 dishes each.
Here are some of the dishes:
Mapo Tofu:
Suahe in Salted Egg:
Boneless Pata Tim:
Although I enjoyed all the dishes we had, my favorite dish out of the ones I was able to try was the Crispy Chicken in Mango Plum Sauce 🙂 It was also everyone’s favorite! I will definitely be going back for it!
I also liked the Steamed Pompano in Chili Taosi Sauce. Let me tell you what the best parts of a fish are – it’s the fish cheeks and the muscles from the top of the fish head going to the “nape” and down the back. The cheeks are tender and flavorful – the closest comparison I can think of is to the “oyster” of a chicken. Very few people know about this so I usually get these parts all to myself after everyone has ignored them. 🙂
Here’s Ms. Rose Ting, Store Manager of King Chef Seafood Restaurant, presenting the Awesome Mom Set Menu (all shown except dessert).
The Mother’s Day set menus will be available at King Chef Seafood Restaurant branches (Banawe and Lucky Chinatown Mall) for the whole month of May!
*Note: These branches are different from the King Chef Dimsum Kitchen branches.
For drinks, most of us chose to get the Avocado Soy. Avocado Passionfruit was also available.
FREE GELATIN DESSERT for moms!
Moms get this beautiful gelatin dessert, too:
It’s a clear gelatin cube/trapezoid injected with the flower design. The base is almond jelly. The whole thing is edible 🙂
CHEF RECOMMENDATIONS:
You may also want to try these new dishes:
I liked the Ginseng Soup. The double-boiled spare ribs were very tender with no off flavor, a result of the double-boiling process. The soup was mild, clear and sweet from the ginseng (not from sugar; it’s not sugar sweet, more like just naturally sweet from the ginseng used to make the broth). Ginseng has wonderful health benefits.
I also liked the Hunan Tofu Hotpot because I love fried tofu 🙂 But this dish also had thick shiitake mushrooms and aromatic vegetables in a thick, sweet and salty brown sauce. It’s not spicy.
The Sauteed Seafood & Apple has delicate fish / seafood and sweet apples for contrasting textures.
The Braised Chili Fish Head isn’t really that spicy, so don’t be scared 🙂 Order this if you want a lot of Omega 3s and collagen — fish head is full of those! Admittedly, fish head is an acquired preference. Most people don’t appreciate eating fish head, but it’s a good dish for those who need the extra nourishment (or you want plump skin and spry joints!).
These dishes will be available until June 2019!
