Have you heard of Plays.org?

It’s a new site that offers a lot of free, browser-based games. AD-FREE!

What is Plays.Org?

I’ve been playing some games on Plays.org for a few weeks now, and it’s a nice stress reliever if you need a quick break from work. Many games only last a few minutes.

There are several Tetris-like games, Space Invaders-type & Pac-man type arcade games, pinball games, simulation games like flight sims and restaurant sims, base defense like “Battle City” and “productive” games like Typing games and Word Search games (like Scrabble).

There are also some educational games that you can let kids play. There are math games, logic games, even shape games that help small kids learn about shapes. I think this is a good resource for parents who want to keep their kids busy for a while, but still want their kids to learn while having fun.

And best of all, this is ALL FREE!

There is no need to download anything because all the games are browser-based. So even if your gadget specs are low, or you don’t want to download another game on your gadget, as long as it has a browser, the games should work.

The site also DOES NOT HAVE ANY ADS and does not do any retargeting.

HOW TO PLAY GAMES ON PLAYS.ORG?

All you need is a browser!

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, they should all work.

Desktop, mobile, tablet – they all work, too! As long as the gadget has a browser, you should be able to play.

  1. Go to https://plays.org/
  2. Browse the games and choose one to play. You can scroll down to the bottom to see a list of categories of games they have. You can also do a search for a game in the Search Box at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click on a game. This should bring you to the game’s page. You’ll see the instructions on how to play the game and the controls.

Each game has different controls. For example, for Neon Invaders, I prefer playing it on my laptop and using my keyboard’s arrow keys to control my spaceship. To shoot, it’s usually pressing the Space Bar. I find it harder to control on my phone. Some games use the WASD keys to move.

Read the instructions, they’re easy and to the point. My only complaint is that they need to use an easier to read font and space things out more so the instructions don’t look like a wall of text.

Some games are better on a laptop / desktop monitor, while some games are formatted for mobile. Some games have Full Screen options, while some do not. There are more than 150 games to choose from, there will surely be some that work for you 🙂

So here are some sample games I have played / tested:

FOR KIDS

Cute Shapes

This would be good for young children to learn about shapes. It’s just a very simple game that lets you “draw” shapes, color them, and add emoticons. That’s it.

Aliens vs Math

This is a simple math game. You can choose if you only want Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, or combination of all the operations.

FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE CLASSICS

Neon Invaders

This has been the game I played the most! Better on the laptop. Controls are easy – arrow keys and then Space Bar to shoot! That’s it!

Falling Cubes

One of the Tetris-like games available.

REMEMBER THE FAMILY COMPUTER?

Tank Wars

If you’ve ever had a Nintendo Family Computer back in the day, I’m sure you’ll recognize this as “Battle City”. It’s very similar to that game. Unfortunately, I still suck at this, haha! Still barely pass Level 1 after several tries. I think it’s easier to control the tanks with a controller (game pad) than with a keyboard.

“PRODUCTIVITY” *wink wink*

Typing Battle

When you need a quick break but still want to feel productive ;P It’s a good excuse as any to sharpen your typing skills! There are several typing games to choose from but I chose Typing Battle.

You are given 50 seconds to type the words highlighted on screen, and the game measures your typing speed and accuracy.

Waffle Word Finder

This is like Scrabble. I notice that it doesn’t accept plurals. I ended up spending more time on this than I had intended to hahaha. I just want to keep going to beat my high score ?

SUMMARY

Playing games was easy. Initially, I was a slow gamer, but once I got the hang of the controls of my frequently played games, I got better 🙂 Some games took a bit of time to load, while other games loaded quite fast. It depends on the game. Once loaded, the games I played were responsive.

I now keep Plays.Org bookmarked on my browser. It’s really a great resource if you just want a quick break from work, and the games are simple enough that you won’t be too tempted to slack off and keep going. I think a big problem with other games is that we tend to get sucked in and before we know it, hours are gone. The games I played from Plays.Org didn’t do that to me – it’s a nice respite, just enough to recharge – and I feel ready to go back to work again.

I would also recommend this for parents looking for educational games for their children. I didn’t really expect to see kid’s games here but they do have them, so if you are looking for something new for your kids to play, check out these games, as well as the math, logic and puzzle games.

Or, you could just play the math, logic and puzzle games yourself to keep your mind sharp! We all need some mental exercises once in while, too 🙂
