Today, I had 2 lunch meals! I had a first lunch at Early Bird Breakfast Club, and a second lunch at Mamou in Serendra. I feel like such a hobbit!
EARLY BIRD BREAKFAST CLUB
Early Bird has been in operation for 4 years! Can’t believe that it’s been 4 years, but this is the first time that I have dined here. I’ve seen it at the Fort Strip whenever we’re looking for someplace to eat late at night, but it was always full so we ended up somewhere else.
Early Bird might be one of the few places, if not the only breakfast place, open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays at the Fort Strip. On regular weekdays, it is open from 7:30 AM to 9:30 PM. They told us that on Simbang Gabi, they are also open 24 hours…
The place is cheery and sunny, and will make you crave for breakfast dishes.
Here’s owner Kendrick Co telling us about how Early Bird started. Back in those days before Early Bird, one had to wake up early to go to Tagaytay if one wanted a good breakfast. Early Bird Breakfast Club is his answer – there’s no need to make the drive to Tagaytay anymore for delicious breakfast!
THE FOOD
Today, we ordered 3 dishes: the Bacon Chicharon (P195), the Smoked Bacon Slab (P345), and the Yin and Yang Champorado (P275).
The Bacon Chicharon is not bad. It’s not greasy and maintains its crispness and crunch even after almost an hour. I was munching on leftovers of this after the meal, so I know! It is served with some chili-spiced vinegar and some yogurt garlic dip on the side.
For the main course, I found the Smoked Bacon Slab a bit too salty for my liking. I know it’s bacon, and it was cooked with some soy sauce and thyme, and even taking that into consideration, I still thought it was too salty. The runny egg is awesome, though! I love runny egg yolks!
For dessert, we tried their very picture-worthy Yin and Yang Champorado. There’s a white champorado made with white Belgian chocolate, and there’s brown champorado made with brown Belgian chocolate. They are presented in a Yin & Yang design, and served with some sugared, toasted dilis on the side.
I finished my whole order of champorado. The chocolate flavor is mild; I like a really strong, unmistakable taste of chocolate, but I somehow still ended up eating the whole thing. Tip: it’s great with the dilis! I added the dilis to my champorado.
SUMMARY
I like the uplifting colors and interiors, I like the concept of an all-day-breakfast place. I’m not sure, but I think Early Bird was one of the pioneer restaurants here serving all-day-breakfast in a nice environment.
However, looking back at the menu in hindsight, there are other items on the menu that look way more appetizing, and when I come back, which I plan to do when I find myself in the area, I’ll order something else. Well, maybe I’d order the Bacon Chicharon again if I have a craving for bacon…
