There are so many international mask brands launching in the Philippines that we’re spoiled for choice!
The latest one to launch is Dr. Morita sheet masks – it is the brand that has been consistently selected as the official facial sheet mask for the Miss Hong Kong pageant since 2014. In my experience, Hong Kongers are quite picky and meticulous, so for them to choose Dr. Morita over other brands does give Dr. Morita some cachet.
About Dr. Morita
The skin care brand was established in Taiwan in 1934 as a product line of the Morita Department Store, a retail operation that specialized in skin care products.
Today, Dr. Morita is one brand under the umbrella of Dr. Jou Biotech. Dr. Chun Hsu Jou is a third-generation member of the founding family, and is the CEO and Head of Research and Development. Dr. Morita set up a research facility in Japan, where they developed the sheet masks with its premium ingredients as early as the year 2000!
Dr. Jou Biotech has offices in Japan, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, and sales sites worldwide, such as in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and now, the Philippines. They have partnered with Gentro International Products, Inc. to make Dr. Morita sheet masks available in Watsons and SM Beauty.
According to Dr. Jou, their sheet masks already have toner, lotion and serum! That’s one-step skin care!
DR. MORITA SHEET MASK REVIEW
Dr. Morita sheet masks are available in several variants, but the one that I will be reviewing is the Hyaluronic Acid Essence Mask.
Here are some usage tips that we were given:
- Cleanse face and then apply the mask for 10-15 minutes. There’s no need to rinse it off afterward. You may massage your face if you want, but there’s really no need to, since the ingredients will absorb into your skin regardless.
- Don’t leave sheet masks on for longer than the recommended time, as it will result in “reverse osmosis”, leaving your skin drier than the ideal.
- Don’t waste the leftover essence inside the package – use it on your face and neck the following night.
- Best to do the mask at night before sleeping.
- For best results, they recommend that you use the mask daily.
Upon opening the package and taking out the sheet mask, I noticed that the essence was really thick and slimy, more so compared to the usual masks I’ve tried before. The mask had two sheets, two sheet masks stuck together. One sheet was softer, the other sheet was stiffer. I wondered which side I was supposed to stick to my face. I decided to stick the softer, slimier side to my face 🙂
After a little Googling, I found out that some face masks do include this extra sheet. This is not supposed to be a face mask sheet, but is there to help unfold the mask better and to prevent it from sticking together too much. Don’t use this sheet on your face because it’s not soft.
There was a lot of essence leftover inside the package! It was enough to use for at least two times! In my case, I am usually able to use it up to 3 nights!
VERDICT – VERY EFFECTIVE & VALUE FOR MONEY
Most masks do not have long lasting effects. Usually, the effects only last until morning of the next day. However, with this mask, even during the afternoon, I find myself wondering at how my skin looked so glassy! It looked so moisturized, that if it weren’t for my current breakouts, I would look like I had glass skin. 🙂
Even two days later, my skin still had that glass skin look. For longer lasting moisturizing effect, this is the best one that I have tried. The moisturizing can be a bit intense if you do not have really dry skin, but for my skin it really did what it claimed. It also did not irritate my eyes that much unlike other masks, whose essences always get into my eyes somehow.
The mask costs P74.00 each in Watsons and SM Beauty, but because each pack contains so much essence, you can actually use this at least twice, and for me, I can use it up to 3 times. Just make sure that everything is clean and the leftover essence kept hygienically. You can use those mask sheets (with no essence) that you can buy from beauty shops with the remaining essence, or you can just put the leftover essence on your face directly the next day.
What I do is: put the sheet mask on my face for 15 minutes. When the 15 minutes is over, the mask is still usually quite wet, so instead of throwing it away immediately, I peel it from my face and use it to wipe my neck, my elbows, my feet, anywhere with dry skin. There’s actually still enough essence on the mask to do this! 🙂
Sobrang sulit siya if you can use it 3 times to moisturize not just your face, but other dry skin on your body as well.
Another tip I found was to put the package in the ref to let it cool before using, so that it would feel refreshing on your face 🙂
