Last week, we had brunch at Denny’s in Uptown Parade. I was excited to try out Denny’s because I haven’t had a chance to try it out since opened in the Philippines a few months ago.
DENNY’S
Denny’s is a family restaurant chain in the US that has evolved into a diner. About 6 years ago, they realized that their customers saw them as a good breakfast place, and basically, as a diner, than as a “family restaurant”. They re-branded their image to suit, and they are now known as “America’s diner”.
I love the concept of diners. Seeing diners in movies and on TV, they seemed like fun places where you can get a hearty meal at affordable prices, where you are always welcome to eat, where anyone and everyone is accepted, and they are always open 24/7.
Denny’s in Uptown Parade is open 24/7! This is basically the best selling point for me. As a night owl, finding a decent place to eat at 4 AM is a struggle. Denny’s is always there for you, open on Sundays, holidays and all other days! If you find yourself heartbroken at 2 AM, Denny’s is here to help you deal by letting you stuff yourself with pancakes and bacon. #NoJudgements
THE FOOD
The food at Denny’s is typical diner food, and the price for a hearty meal is typically about P375-395 per dish.
Out of everything we tried, my favorite is The Grand Slamwich (P395). It’s a sandwich with all my favorite breakfast fixins! It has scrambled eggs, crumbled sausage, bacon, shaved ham, cheese, sandwiched on toasted bread, and finally grilled with a maple spice spread. Served with fries.
I also liked the Chicken & Sausage Quesadilla (P395). The filling has some chicken, crumbled sausage, bell peppers and onions, and a generous amount of cheese. Make sure to dip it in the ranch dressing, the ranch dressing is delicious!
Choco Overload Peanut Butter Pancake Plate (P395) – check out the fluffy pancakes!
All-American Slam (P395) – toast, hash brown, bacon, sausages and eggs
French Toast Slam (P385) – each slice of the french toast is soaked through with milk and egg
Belgian Waffle Slam (P385) – with 2 eggs cooked the way you prefer, 2 slices of bacon, and 2 pieces of sausage
Asian Chicken Salad (P395) – sweet, tangy, crunchy & nutty
Bourbon BBQ Bacon Burger (P525) – juicy and meaty beef patty topped with bacon, bell peppers and bourbon bbq sauce
Cajun Shrimp (P385) – creamy and a little spicy
SUMMARY
Denny’s is open 24/7!!! That’s the main thing for me. We have somewhere decent to go at 2 AM should we find ourselves hungry after the last full show of a movie during the weekend.
The food is priced above average by Philippine standards for breakfast meals, but in the same range as prices in the US, if you convert US prices to Philippine pesos. Also, bear in mind that you are also paying for the convenience of having them open 24/7. Besides, the servings are big, so it’s actually kind of okay. Considering all that, I think the pricing is reasonable.
In terms of the food, it is typical diner food, as expected. Don’t expect anything gourmet or fancy, but I find the food pretty good for a diner. I think it’s something that your average person would be happy to eat. Unlike the typical diner, the food at Denny’s is not greasy. This is the place to go if you have a craving for pancakes, waffles, burgers… but on my next visit, I have my eye on that Country-Fried Steak! *drools*
Denny’s Philippines is brought to you by The Bistro Group. Denny’s also has a branch in Trinoma, and another branch in Vista Mall in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
