While it’s the most common way to do a wedding nowadays, hotel weddings certainly has its advantages. Hotel ballrooms and function rooms are truly designed to hold big events in — just ask any events organizer. Most hotels offer optimized wedding packages, depending on how many guests you’d like to invite and you can even choose between a sit-down or buffet dinner. Best of all, the wait staff is trained to serve in weddings: they already know what to expect, and what are the things they should usually watch out for.
One disadvantage though is that since it’s the most common way to do weddings, it’s hard to stand out. Yes, it looks elegant to have your wedding photos in the luxurious lobby, but so many others have done the same. And every couple who spends this much on a wedding would like for their union to really stand out. Is it still possible?
We say yes! With a bit of creativity and willingness to try new things, hotel weddings can still be unique and creative in the most fun ways possible
Choose a motif that is not just about pastel colours or your favourite shade.
It’s run of the mill to choose a wedding motif centered on popular colours: powder blue, rose pink, teal, yellow among others. One way you can make your wedding truly stand out is to choose a theme or motif that more than colours— your favourite fandoms (think Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the like), your favourite movies etc. It’s your wedding after all, and you can choose how to go about it and make it as personal as possible. Opting for a creative theme will allow you to make more creative decisions with the other elements of your wedding.
Pick the most colourful photo booth / photo wall design possible.
It’s not a wedding without a photo booth / photo wall, and this is one of the items you can easily dress up. If you have a travel-themed wedding, you can set-up your photo booth to look like Central Park in New York or the Eiffel Tower in Paris. If you’re wedding is inspired by a certain movie, have a photo booth that will recreate your favourite scenes or where guests can pose with a photo of you looking like characters from it. There’s so many ways you can do this, you and your partner will have a lot of fun choosing what to do!
If your budget would allow it, have your waiters and ushers wear something colourful and personal while working at your wedding.
Hotels would most probably require their waiters and staff to be in the official uniform, but the great thing about most hotels is that they are trained to accommodate guests as much as possible. Having the waiters wear a special hat, or pin or ribbon in their uniforms would most probably be allowed, and would add that special something to your wedding since the staff are the people who would be going around the most. Just make sure it’s not too frivolous that it will hinder them from doing their duties well — you don’t want unwanted stress on your wedding day.
Be creative with your wedding backdrop as much as possible.
Most wedding banquet halls are spacious and roomy, so being creative with your stage design and backdrop would be easy — you only need to be willing to be daring with the design, and stretch your budget a bit (staging is never cheap). Again, choosing the right theme or motif will allow you room for creativity, and the best part is, hotel management is almost always willing to help couples out. You don’t need to stick to the usual floral and dainty design traditional couples pick out — have fun! But it’s important to stay tasteful so best to ask your wedding organizer how to best go about it.
Weddings usually reflect the personality of the couple and as long as you and your partner know how to have fun, the fun and creative aspect of the hotel wedding will most probably take care of itself. So while hotel weddings can be stiff and formal due to the natural ambiance of the setting, you can opt for choices that will bring you and your guests as much fun as possible.
