We usually end up dining at S Maison whenever we go to the SM Mall of Asia area. I like it better because it’s less crowded and doesn’t feel so cramped.
One of the restaurants on the second floor is called Chibo and I was curious to try it. I’ve been to the Chibo branch at the 5th floor of Podium, but this one at S Maison just seemed more elegantly appointed, and they had the okonomiyaki cooking plate thing in the middle of the table. So when we had the opportunity to do so, we went for dinner at Chibo. Note: the S Maison branch is the one that has the table griddle.
CHIBO OKONOMIYAKI
Chibo is actually a franchise from Japan. While they are known for okonomiyaki, and okonomiyaki is their main menu item, they also have other dishes on the menu as well.
Upon entering, we were greeted with this display of mostly Japanese liquor:
This is what the tables look like, they have that okonomiyaki cooking thing in the middle (teppanyaki griddle). The staff called it a warmer.
You can also sit in this area where you can watch your food being cooked. The customers had just left and the waiters were clearing the table.
Here are some okonomiyaki toppings and seasonings provided per table:
The waiter recommended the Chibo Okonomiyaki (P488), their signature okonomiyaki dish. It has pork, beef, prawns and scallop. I thought they were going to cook this in front of us, but it wasn’t. When they brought it out to our table, it was already cooked, but without the toppings. We still got to enjoy the spectacle of adding the toppings and watching the katsuobushi dance.

We also tried the Pork Yakisoba (P288), another recommendation by our waiter. They mix this up in your table griddle.

Pork and Cheese Tonpeiyaki (P188) – this is an omelette filled with thinly-sliced pork and cheese ๐
Crispy Gyoza Teppan (P168) – this looked interesting so we ordered it. This is gyoza but in this shape that makes for crispier skin ๐
Sausage Teppan (238) – this is one of my favorite dishes from Chibo. Tried it the first time, and reordered it on our second visit. It’s meaty and both sweet and savory at the same time.
Chicken & Coriander Salad (P288) – if you love coriander (cilantro), you’ll love this salad! I finished this salad – it had a lot of chicken pieces, and it tastes bright and fresh and coriander-y. We didn’t order this on our second visit because we wanted to try the other dishes, but I’ll definitely order this again on my next visit! This is also a favorite dish at Chibo.
Note: photos are a mix from both visits
SUMMARY
There are so many okonomiyaki flavors and variants and I really want to try them all! I love okonomiyaki and I can’t wait to go back and try other flavors. While the other side dishes were good, for me, the okonomiyaki here is really what I will keep coming back for. I found it bitin because I had to share it. Next time, I’m just going to order the okonomiyaki and get one okonomiyaki per person ๐ and probably the sausage, because I thought it was delicious, too. I also liked the Chicken Coriander Salad because I love coriander on everything!
