One response to “Christmas at Bo’s Coffee + 2020 Planner Page Pictures”
Dear Ms. Karen:
As I read thru your post on Bo’s Coffee, I am reminded of my annoying experience at Starbucks in Baguio City, specifically at their branch in Ayala Technohub at Camp John Hay.
Last Sunday (December 29, 2019), we decided to have coffee at said Starbucks branch to wait for traffic to ease before we go home. As a senior citizen, I asked the male cashier where the priority lane is for Senior Citizens, PWDs, etc. (since the priority lane sign was no longer there) and he referred me to the lady cashier who said she can already get my orders because I am the first in line.
When I gave my order slip, the lady cashier was apologetic saying that she can only accommodate the orders of the senior citizen (me) and that the other orders will have to be entertained at the other lane explaining that some customers have complained of senior citizens abusing the priority lane. I asked her what’s the logic there and when did they adopt such policy because we were just there last December 23, 2019, there was no such hassle and there were eight of us but this time there are only five of us and I am also the one paying using my Starbucks Card. Besides, there are only four customers in queue at the other lane. The lady cashier insisted that one of my companions fall in line at the other lane after she is through with my orders so that my companion (niece) can use my card to pay.
I did not argue with lady cashier anymore because it seems that she cannot understand the law and that “The customer is always right” slogan does not apply at Starbucks. So, I asked my niece to order for her husband and children.
While waiting for my order, I have observed that at the regular lane some customers ordered for their family members or friends in 2’s, 4’s and 5’s.
So there, Starbucks is saying that the regular customers can order for their friends/ companions but the senior citizens, PWDs, etc, can only order for themselves? I am aware that only I will be granted the senior citizen discount and it’s incidental that I am with family members when I go there. Starbucks should be happy that we Senior Citizens bring along family members or friends – as additional customers.
If this policy is adopted by all establishments, what will happen at the taxi lane? – separate the senior citizens from their families that they should take another cab? At the groceries/ supermarkets? Drugstores? Restaurants? – we cannot buy for our family members when using the priority lane?
By the way, when we were leaving the coffee shop I went to redeem my planner and the same lady cashier warned me, as if I’m stupid, that I should be sure of my color choice (of the planner) because I can no longer have it replaced once issued. What?!! – I thought the “No return, no exchange” policy is illegal according to the DTI. What if it’s damaged?
Any reactions from your readers?
Thank you.
